Homework Policy

Second Grade Homework Policy

Homework plays an important role in the academic success of first grade students. It gives the children a chance to review skills taught in class. In addition, children become reliable citizens as they take on the responsibility of completing and returning assignments in time.

For parents and caregivers, homework provides a continuous source of information regarding skills taught in different areas of the curriculum. Parents who review homework daily are well-informed about the academic growth of their children.

Second grade students are expected to complete 15-20 minutes of homework each school day. Homework is to be returned on time. If a child has tremendous difficulty with an assignment, the parent should return the assignment and notify the teacher with a note or phone call.

Consequences of Late or Incomplete Homework

Day 1- Reminder is sent home (green notice). This is to be signed and returned and returned to school the next school day along with the late assignment.

Day 2- Second reminder is sent home (yellow notice). This is to be signed and returned to school the next school day along with the late assignment.

Day 3- Child loses recess. The teacher may choose to have the child complete the assignment at that time. Third reminder is sent home (red/pink notice). This is to be signed and returned to school the next school day along with the late assignment if not completed during recess.
