What is Literacy Group?

Your child has been identified by their teacher as someone who would benefit from additional time spent in a small group for reading instruction.  This flexible grouping opportunity gives selected first and second graders a chance to meet with three or less fellow students to practice and enhance their reading skills.  These Literacy Groups meet one to three times a week and are meant to strengthen strategies, not replace instruction in their own classrooms.
During the course of the school year I will be in contact with each teacher in order to accommodate your child's reading needs.  By addressing strengths and weaknesses, I will work towards creating fluent readers.  The teacher contact allows me to release students as they make progress throughout the year.   Occassionally, students will be allowed to take home the books read during our group time.   The goal will be to give students additional strategies when reading unfamiliar text.
